This novel, banned in Cuba, was first published in Paris after being secreted out between the pages of a biological dissertation. The English translation is pretty shitty. Almost half the novel is set in various prisons where Fray Servando Theresa de Mier is imprisoned and from which he escapes or is freed. Y si esto no fuese poco, reta al lector a identificar las diferentes personas narradoras durante el hilo de la historia, juega con las 1a, 2a y 3a persona. Ne vale sicuramente la pena! The book reads allucinante a series of hallucinations and very rarely re a whole lot of sense. The magical realism style, is a mixture of first and third person, is in deed more like a hallucination reflecting the inner and outer struggle of this real life revolutionary priest.
